In "Body Grow Cold," a dialogue-only novella about responsibility and failure, a group of former coal miners turned small-time drug dealers dissembles into savagery and despair a thousand feet beneath the surface of a southern Illinois town. Loosely influenced by the Herrin massacre of 1922 in Williamson County, Illinois, "Body Grow Cold" follows ten men and two women into the depths of an abandoned shaft mine, where they encounter both chance misfortune and the consequences of their own limitations.
